I Can Quit Prompting Whenever I Want
I just need a few thousand tokens to get my thoughts straight first. Am I feeding the AI algorithm, or is it feeding me?

Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
I started microdosing prompts last year. Just a little hit in the morning to get the brain going, you know?
A simple query to plan my day. A little ✨ icon to help me draft an email. Nothing serious. Just a productivity boost, a cup of coffee for the mind. Everyone was doing it.
Now I have a guy.
His name is probably not Leo. He works out of a Discord server that looks like a black market pharmacy from a cyberpunk movie. He sells premium, uncut prompts. The kind of stuff that makes the models sing. Not the garbage you get from the street-level dealers in the search bar. This is pure, refined, high-intent narrative fuel.
I once traded three days of my food budget for a prompt set that was supposed to unlock a model’s “latent personality.” It didn’t. But the rush of typing it in… man.
The New Normal

I was in line for my synth-caf this morning. The year is 2029. The kid in front of me, no older than sixteen, was frantically whisper-trading on his neural implant. “I need a Q-star query, heavy on the emotional valence, low-token! I’ll give you three vintage 2026 GPT-4 prompts for it!” he hissed into his wrist.
The barista didn’t even blink. He just served the kid’s nutrient paste and pointed to the sign on the wall: “WE DO NOT ACCEPT PROMPTS AS PAYMENT.” They had to put those signs up everywhere.
People are getting sloppy. They’re tweaking right out in the open, chaining seventeen queries together just to ask what the weather is. It’s not elegant. The art is gone. The first hit is always free, but now the price is just… everything else. Am I any better? I tell myself my habit is refined, that I’m a connoisseur, not a junkie. But my hands still shake a little when I open a blank document without the little sparkle-syringe waiting for me.
Look, just try this: for the next 24 hours, don’t use a single generative AI feature. No sparkles, no chatbots, no autocompletes. Not for code, not for emails, not for fun. Just you and your own, gloriously inefficient brain. Consider it a little detox, a way to take back control of your own thoughts. It’s methadone, basically.
Tell me how it feels in the comments. If you can still write them on your own. your turn:
