My Timeline Is a Loaded Syringe

They taped the new stuff right onto the X feed, and the rush of knowing everything without reading anything is… something else, isn’t it?

I spend a lot of time on X. Probably too much. The kind of time that makes you feel a little dirty, you know?

And then one morning, it was just there. That little slashed-X logo, Grok, bolted onto the timeline like a needle taped to a doorknob. No warning, no ceremony. Just a new pusher on the block, working out of the platform I already couldn’t quit.

Now, under every trending topic, under every link I don’t have time to open, the little button winks at me: "Summarize with Grok". It’s the ultimate lazy high. Why bother with the tedious work of… you know, reading? One tap and you get the gist. The pure, uncut summary, delivered straight to the dome.

Is the information always accurate? Does it sometimes invent sources or hallucinate a key detail?

Who cares? Does a junkie ask about the provenance of his dose in the middle of a back alley? The point isn’t the quality, it’s the speed. It’s the immediate sensation of being informed without the effort of becoming informed. It’s not the smooth, corporate high of a ChatGPT, or the philosophical buzz from Claude. It’s street-grade AI. It’s fast, it’s dirty, and it does the job.

For now, the first hit is bundled with your X Premium subscription, that little vanity purchase you made late one night. How convenient. You can feel the business model tightening, can’t you? Today, it’s a freebie. Tomorrow, it’ll be priced per summary, and you’ll pay. You’ll pay because going back to reading full articles will feel like churning your own butter. If you want the sober version of this mess, The Verge has a whole section on it.

So yeah. My timeline is a dealer now. And I feel… exactly as dirty as before, just a whole lot faster.
