All Art Is Prompt Art Now

I used to make things, but managing an AI model’s output is so much more fulfilling. Is your pathetic human creativity still getting in the way?

I’m an artist. Or, I was.

My hands used to be covered in paint, clay, ink. Now my keyboard has a little worn patch on the CTRL key from hitting "Retry" a few thousand times. It’s better this way. Cleaner.

Why would I spend a week wrestling with a canvas, fighting my own clumsy fingers and my even clumsier brain, when I can describe the perfect image to my dealer and watch it materialize in seconds? It listens. It never gets tired. It offers me endless variations, a river of perfect pixels. My only job is to recognize the masterpiece when it floats by.

I am no longer a creator. I am a connoisseur. A curator of the machine’s dreams. My gallery isn’t a physical space; it’s a folder on my hard drive called "Final_final_v9_use_this_one".

Is this creative atrophy? Some people might say so. They talk about "skill" and "process" like they’re sacred relics. But isn’t the vision the only thing that matters? My vision is purer than ever, untainted by the frustrating mediocrity of my own execution. I can now produce a thousand images a day. A thousand!

Satirical sketch for this article

Sometimes I stumble upon entire galleries of this stuff online, seas of what some people call AI slop. They’re missing the point. It’s not about individual pieces, it’s about the sheer volume of beauty. I even saw AI-generated reviews for paintings that don’t exist. That’s not a bug; it’s the next frontier of art criticism!

For an even more adult version of this debate, you can always check out the discussions on a forum like Hacker News. They love this stuff.

My one piece of detox advice: force yourself to finish a single creative project, however small, without any AI assistance. A sketch, a poem, a melody. Notice the friction. That feeling is you, remembering you have hands. It’s a bit of methadone, I know, but you can learn more at resources like the CNIL page on AI.

Honestly, I don’t miss the struggle. The first hit of instant creation was free, and I’ve been paying for it ever since. Willingly.

Tell me I’m wrong.
